ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unveiled a framework of transparency rules and technical safeguards for the upcoming 5G spectrum auction, aimed at addressing concerns raised by potential bidders regarding data access, system stability, and auction continuity.
PTA stated that participants will be able to track detailed round-by-round information through the Electronic Auction System.
This will include data on total demand, excess demand, updated pricing, and indicators of potential future price movements. Bidders will also be able to access and download historical auction data in CSV format at any stage of the process.
Regarding bidding procedures, the authority clarified that each participant will be granted two extension rights during the allocation phase. However, no automatic extensions will be available in the assignment phase, although PTA may allow additional rounds if deemed necessary.
To address risks of technical disruptions, the regulator referred bidders to the contingency provisions outlined in the Information Memorandum, which detail backup measures in case of system failures or login issues.
PTA further announced that additional guidance, practical examples, and live demonstrations of the auction system will be provided during upcoming information sessions, bidder seminars, and a mock auction before the official bidding begins.
