The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on the district administration in Islamabad to extend business hours, proposing that markets and shopping centres remain open until 9:00 pm and restaurants until 11:30 pm.
The request aims to align the capital’s business timings with those recently introduced by the Government of Sindh under its austerity policy on April 10.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood said the Sindh government’s schedule for markets, restaurants, and marriage halls offers a balanced approach that supports energy conservation without hindering economic activity.
He urged authorities to adopt a similar business-friendly framework in Islamabad to support traders and sustain commercial activity.
Mehmood warned that differing business regulations across regions of the same country send negative signals to investors and the business community.
“Policy uniformity is vital for economic consistency and investor confidence,” he said, adding that inconsistent regulations create uncertainty and operational difficulties for businesses.
He reiterated that Islamabad’s business community has consistently supported government initiatives, including austerity measures, and will continue to do so.
However, he stressed that policies should be practical, inclusive, and formulated in consultation with stakeholders.
He concluded by reaffirming ICCI’s willingness to work with the government to promote sustainable economic growth and a more business-friendly environment in Islamabad.
