ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday stated that Pakistan is successfully maintaining the supply and demand of essential commodities despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
While chairing a review meeting on steps to protect the country from economic and financial impacts of regional instability, the prime minister instructed authorities to formulate a comprehensive medium- and long-term strategy to tackle the challenges arising from rising global prices. He noted that the government was actively working on plans to safeguard the economy from potential fallout linked to the regional crisis.
“Many countries are struggling to maintain the balance of supply and demand for essential goods due to the current situation,” he observed, according to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. He further directed officials to prepare a strategy focused on reducing economic pressure on the public, while ensuring uninterrupted production and a stable supply-demand balance across sectors.
Sharif also underscored the importance of factoring in both external and domestic macroeconomic conditions in policy planning.
The prime minister commended relevant institutions for their timely and effective actions in preventing any disruption in the availability of essential commodities.
He added that, after fulfilling local needs, Pakistan was moving forward with plans to export surplus production.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to economic stability, growth, and public welfare, Sharif stressed the importance of strong coordination among ministries and institutions to maintain stability in all sectors. He also highlighted the need to curb the impact of rising production costs on exports and overall economic performance.
“Available resources and opportunities must be fully utilised to safeguard agricultural and industrial production amid current economic challenges,” he added.
The meeting also reviewed medium- and long-term strategies to address economic and financial pressures stemming from regional tensions.
Officials briefed participants that ministries and institutions were closely monitoring the situation and assessing its economic impact on a daily basis.
The prime minister appreciated the coordinated efforts of all departments and called for further improvements in collaboration, praising them for maintaining the balance of supply and demand for essential goods despite difficult conditions.
