Oman has indicated its willingness to provide Pakistan with preferential fuel cargoes, offering a potential cushion against rising supply risks and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
The development emerged during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Fahad Bin Sulaiman Bin Khalaf Alkharusi, held on Thursday to review the regional energy situation and explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sector, according to an official statement.
Malik подчеркнул that Pakistan and Oman share long-standing, cordial, and brotherly relations built on mutual respect, shared history, and strong people-to-people connections. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding energy cooperation and identifying new avenues of partnership.
During the discussion, the minister briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy imports and enhance supply resilience, including exploring alternative routes and sources beyond the Strait of Hormuz due to shifting regional dynamics.
The Omani envoy welcomed these efforts and expressed readiness to support Pakistan in strengthening its energy security. In response to Pakistan’s request for preferential fuel supplies, the ambassador conveyed a positive stance and assured that the proposal would be considered favorably.
In March alone, Pakistan imported three petrol cargoes and one diesel cargo from Oman, with two additional petrol shipments expected before the end of the month.
The meeting also covered opportunities for deeper collaboration in the upstream energy sector, including exploration and production, as well as broader cooperation in oil and gas development projects.
It was further noted that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Oman Trading International (OQT) are engaged in ongoing discussions to secure additional oil cargoes to meet Pakistan’s growing energy needs.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Oman energy ties and enhancing strategic cooperation for mutual benefit.
