The government is set to release the Economic Survey 2025-26 today (Thursday), presenting an official assessment of Pakistan’s economic performance during the outgoing fiscal year ahead of the federal budget scheduled for Friday.
As a key pre-budget document, the Economic Survey offers a detailed review of the country’s economic achievements, challenges, and major indicators over the past year.
Although the government had initially planned to present the budget on June 10, the date was later rescheduled to June 12.
The FY27 budget is expected to outline the government’s fiscal strategy, including revenue-generation measures, expenditure allocations, and broader economic priorities aimed at maintaining stability and supporting growth.
NEC Approves Development Outlay and Growth Targets
On Wednesday, the National Economic Council (NEC) approved a national development programme worth Rs3.669 trillion for fiscal year 2026-27, which includes Rs838 billion in foreign assistance. The council also set a GDP growth target of 4% for the upcoming fiscal year.
The approved development package comprises Rs1 trillion for the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), Rs2.218 trillion for provincial development initiatives, and Rs451 billion for state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
The NEC also unanimously endorsed a four-point agenda and revised key economic indicators for FY26. For the outgoing fiscal year, it approved Rs820 billion for the federal PSDP, Rs2.938 trillion for provincial development projects, and Rs355 billion for SOEs.
In addition, the council endorsed a GDP growth target of 3.7% for FY2025-26.
