The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) organised an awareness session on government policies concerning women, where business and government leaders emphasized that women’s economic empowerment is not a social luxury but a national necessity, stressing that Pakistan cannot afford to sideline half of its population.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, speaking at the event, said women are an essential part of society and play a key role in national development. He also announced that a special ceremony to mark International Women’s Day will be held at the chamber on Friday. He noted that women are increasingly contributing not only at home but also in business, industry, and education, although challenges such as limited access to finance and lack of professional guidance still persist.
Parliamentary Secretary of the Punjab Women Development Department, Salma Saadia Taimoor, who attended as the chief guest, stated that the Punjab government, under the Chief Minister’s leadership, has made women’s development and protection a central policy priority.
She highlighted a range of initiatives introduced by the government, including virtual police stations, a dedicated women’s helpline, free travel on electric buses, e-taxi and e-bike schemes, women incubation centres, and skill development programmes.
