Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday instructed that all operational functions of the National Tariff Commission (NTC) be completely digitalised to enhance transparency and improve quality.
The directive was issued during a review meeting held in Islamabad, chaired by the prime minister, to assess ongoing reform efforts aimed at making the NTC more effective and in line with international standards, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the session, the NTC chairman briefed participants on the legal, administrative, and financial reforms currently being implemented under a roadmap approved by the prime minister.
The premier highlighted that following the commission’s institutional restructuring, its efficient performance is vital for boosting domestic industry and attracting investment.
“The prime minister directed that the legal and administrative issues of the NTC should be resolved under a comprehensive strategy in the context of promoting industry, trade, and investment,” the PMO said.
He also stressed that the NTC must facilitate investors and industrialists while taking special measures to shield them from legal and other complications.
Additionally, the prime minister called for a review of global best practices to ensure the commission’s restructuring and performance align with international benchmarks.
The National Tariff Commission, established under the National Tariff Commission Act, 2015, serves as Pakistan’s statutory trade remedies authority, responsible for conducting quasi-judicial investigations into dumping, subsidised imports, and sudden import surges that harm domestic industry.
